CSPA age calculator

Estimate a child’s age under the Child Status Protection Act (CSPA), which can keep a child from “aging out” of a green card case.

Estimate only. This is general information, not legal advice, and it can’t guarantee any outcome. Results are only as accurate as the dates you enter.

Who this is for

Tap the next to a question if you’re not sure where to find the date.

Use the Final Action Dates chart. Tap the question mark to see how to find it.

How the estimate works

  1. The visa availability date is the later of two dates: the petition approval date, or the first day of the Visa Bulletin month when the priority date became current.
  2. We work out the child’s age on that date.
  3. We subtract the number of days the petition was pending, counted from the filing date to the approval date.
  4. If the result is under 21, the child is under 21 under the CSPA formula. The child must also take a qualifying step to seek permanent residence within one year of the visa availability date.

Rules that can change the answer

This tool uses the Final Action Dates chart. USCIS requires that chart for adjustment of status applications filed on or after August 15, 2025. Applications that were already pending before that date may be treated under an earlier, more favorable policy. If that might apply to you, speak with a licensed immigration attorney or DOJ-accredited representative. Policies can change, so check the sources below.
