Immigration document checklist
Pick your form and answer a few questions. We list the documents the USCIS instructions ask you to send, the ones that depend on your situation, and what to keep for later. Tick them off as you go, or print the list.
A checklist, not a review of your case. USCIS can ask for more, and a missing document can delay or deny your application. Always read the current form instructions on uscis.gov before you file. This is general information, not legal advice.
Before you mail it
- Use the current edition. USCIS rejects old editions of a form. The form page on uscis.gov says which edition it accepts.
- Send copies unless the instructions ask for an original, and keep a full copy of everything you send.
- Pay electronically. Since October 28, 2025, USCIS no longer takes paper checks or money orders for most filings. See the fee for your form in the USCIS fee calculator.
- Many forms can be filed online with a USCIS account, often for a lower fee. You cannot file online if you ask for a fee waiver or reduced fee.
