Premium processing checker
Premium processing is a paid USCIS service: for an extra fee, USCIS acts on a case within a set number of business days. It is offered only for some forms. Choose your form to see whether it is offered, the fee and the deadline.
Faster, not more likely. Premium processing only changes how quickly USCIS acts. It does not change the result, and it does not speed up later steps (for example a visa interview or a green card application). This is general information, not legal advice.
The rules
- Which forms. Only the forms and categories DHS designates: Form I-129 (most work visa classifications), Form I-140, Form I-765 for F-1 OPT and STEM OPT, and Form I-539 for a change of status to F, M or J (8 CFR 106.4). Family petitions, green card applications, citizenship and humanitarian forms are not on the list.
- How to ask. File Form I-907 with the form, or later while the case is pending. One I-907 covers one form.
- The clock. 15, 30 or 45 business days, depending on the category. It starts when USCIS has the I-907, the fee and everything the form needs. A request for evidence or notice of intent to deny starts a new full period when USCIS gets the response.
- If USCIS is late. It refunds the premium processing fee and keeps processing the case.
- USCIS can pause it. USCIS sometimes suspends premium processing for a category. Check the USCIS page before you file.
