I-864 sponsor income calculator

Check whether a sponsor’s income meets the minimum for the Form I-864 Affidavit of Support, based on household size.

Estimate only. This is general information, not legal advice, and it can’t guarantee any outcome. Results are only as accurate as what you enter.

How to use it

The sponsor is the person who signs the Form I-864 promising financial support. Enter the sponsor’s household and annual income. The tool compares the income with the minimum for that household size, using the 2026 federal poverty guidelines.

Household size

The sponsor counts as 1. Don’t count the same person twice.

If the spouse is the person being sponsored, count them under “People being sponsored” instead.

Household size: 2

Use the income the Form I-864 instructions describe, such as the total income on the most recent tax return.

If the income is short

The Form I-864 instructions describe other ways to meet the requirement, such as a joint sponsor, adding income from certain household members with Form I-864A, or counting qualifying assets. Assets are counted at a multiple of the shortfall that depends on the relationship between the sponsor and the immigrant, so check the instructions or ask a professional.

Things this tool does not do

It doesn’t decide whether income is counted correctly, whether a household member qualifies, or which poverty guideline edition USCIS will apply to your case. Check the current Form I-864P.
